DISCOVER DOGS

For information regarding when the above shows are held go to:   www.thekennelclub.org.uk

There are so many events which take place at the Shows besides breed showing, for example:  Agility, Obedience, Flyball, Heelwork to Music, Scrufts (Best Crossbreed) and Young Kennel Club events as well as special demonstrations by other organisations such as the Police, H.M. Customs, Guide Dogs, and much, much more.   Of course, there are loads of exhibitors selling everything you could ever need for your dog and quite a lot of things for you too!  A great doggy day out for the family!  Just one note of caution though, please don’t attempt to take your own pet to the Shows as only dogs officially taking part in the activities can attend.

Thinking of getting a puppy?

It’s vital you find out as much as possible about the suitability of your chosen breed.  Sometimes the dog we’d like is not necessarily a good fit with our lifestyle so please do your homework first.  To that end a visit to Crufts or Discover Dogs with over 200 breeds of pedigree dog represented is a great idea.  You will be able to speak to breeders and find out all the information regarding the breeds you’re interested in and so make the right choice for you and your new puppy.  You will also have the opportunity to find out about health tests recommended for your chosen breed which will enable you to select a breeder who really cares for the health and welfare of your future puppy by being able to provide Certificates of Health Tests for their breeding dogs.  This is as important for crossbreeds as it is for pedigree breeds.

Remember, a good breeder will always be able to show you the puppies with their mother (and sometimes the father), will likely quiz you about your lifestyle and why you want a particular breed of puppy and will always be willing to take the puppy back or assist with re-homing if that should become necessary.  A good breeder will also provide Puppy Packs, detailing all the basic information needed to ensure puppies get off to a good start and will ensure puppies are microchipped and vet checked before going to their new homes.
